What is Genre?

According to the Fourth Edition Dictionary of Literary Terms and Literary Theory, genre is defined as “A French term for a kind, a literary type or class”(Cuddon 342).

Three definitions from Read Write Think:

1. A kind of literary or artistic work

2. A style of expressing yourself in writing

3. A class of artistic endeavor having a characteristic form or technique
